finding a voice in the blogosphere
January 2, 2007 – 7:36 pmAfter reading Seth Godin’s collection of thoughts and insights in Small Is the New Big: and 183 Other Riffs, Rants, and Remarkable Business Ideas, I realized (among other things) how powerful online transparency and social interaction within the blogosphere has become. As with any good read, Seth’s book makes you think. It prompted me to review my growing list of RSS feeds, to try and understand why certain bloggers or content get me excited. This evaluation reminded me of a project I worked on (but hardly grasped) many years ago for Joseph Goguen’s course in algebraic semiotics.
Blogs communicate meaning through symbols and have a social context within the blogosphere. So then, what does my blog represent? How is it perceived within the blogosphere? Why does it matter and how can it be improved? As I learn more about the answers to these and other questions, I will be trying new things here in the coming months. I will work on increasing transparency, staying mindful of social context within the blogosphere and improve the relevance of my posts accordingly. If you have any suggestions or guidance please send it my way.
It is clear that Seth practices what he preaches (check out his blog) and his fearless embrace of change and down to earth writing style is refreshing. Next up on the reading list is Wikinomics by Don Tapscott and Anthony D. Williams.
